A community space that’s been at the heart of village life for generations. Now it’s being rebuilt from the ground up.
The Hall’s Story
Middleton in Teesdale Village Hall has always been the place where the village comes together. It’s where children went to Beavers and Cubs, where badminton games ran on weekday evenings, where shows were put on and the whole village turned out. New Year’s Eve parties, community celebrations, the kind of nights that people still talk about years later. For a village this size, the hall was the centre of everything.
Then it stopped. Asbestos and serious structural problems meant the hall had to close, and it stayed closed for over a decade. For a long time, many in the community weren’t sure it would ever come back.
The Rebuild
It took years of work behind the scenes. Grant applications, setbacks, and the kind of persistence that only comes from people who genuinely care about where they live. Eventually, the funding came through, and the rebuild began.
This is not a renovation. The hall is being rebuilt from the ground up, properly and permanently. Foundations have been poured and construction is moving forward. What comes next will be a modern, purpose-built community facility that’s designed to serve Middleton-in-Teesdale for decades to come.
The rebuild has been made possible through grant funding, secured by people in this community who refused to let the hall disappear.
Built to Last
The new hall is not just a replacement for what was here before. It’s been designed with the future in mind.
Solar powered. The roof will be covered in solar panels, giving the hall the ability to generate its own energy and operate independently of the grid.
A community refuge. When Storm Arwen hit, Middleton-in-Teesdale lost power. The new hall is designed to function as a community refuge during outages, providing a warm, lit, powered space when the village needs one most.
Step-free access throughout. The hall has been designed so that everyone can use it, with full step-free access from entrance to every room.
Grant-funded, community-driven. This project has been funded through grants and driven by the community. It belongs to Middleton-in-Teesdale.
What the Hall Will Offer
At launch, the main hall will be available to hire for events, gatherings, and community activities. Hourly and day rates will be confirmed ahead of opening.
As the hall finds its feet, the plan is to expand. Meeting rooms, a regular events programme, and space for local groups and organisations to call home. The hall was always the centre of community life in Middleton. It will be again.
